Ryan Adam’s future is in limbo, his long windedness edging him ever closer to my own graveyard of once awesome but sadly now lost. There is just something about a person, who obviously has had a successful career, acting like a little bitch throwing out an existential crisis at 34 that puts me off. I mean for Christ sakes, if smoking fags allows you to function and make sweet loving music go out and get a carton. I hold out hope for him but things aren’t looking good, I personally sent out a pack of Pall Mall non-filtered this morning.
Luckily enough I have stumbled across his potential replacement Chris Pureka. You may be intimately acquainted with her music as she already has four albums to her credit;
Chris Pureka (2001), Driving North (2004), Dryland (2006), and her upcoming Chimera (2009). Hailing from Northampton Massachusetts, Chris Pureka to me is noteworthy female equivalent to Ryan Adams. Her website’s bio page describes her perfectly as,
“A New England folkie with a parched, wounded voice and a mean way with an acoustic guitar, Pureka makes romantic depression seem, somehow, invigorating.”
Here is a sample of her music, a cover of O.C.M.S, Wagon Wheel; hopefully she helps with anyone else’s potential Ryan Adams hangover, and if he manages to solve his crisis well the two can go on to tour and sing duets together.
